Yenny's Bodega
Yenny runs a little corner store (called a bodega here in Peru) in her neighborhood. She would like to buy a larger inventory of goods that she tends to run out of and expand to include fresh produce. Customers who come to her store for milk, rice, or sugar when they are out of stock are forced to go elsewhere and may decide to avoid disappointment next time. A loan of $675 will give her the capital she needs to stock her store more profitably.

Growing a Business

I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on the status of the loan we made to Yenny for her bodega. About two months ago she had the opportunity to move her family across the street into a house of her own. Not only was this a blessing for her family but it has also been a blessing for the store! In this house there was a much larger room that she could use for the bodega, allowing her the space she needed to keep a larger stock of goods. Currently she offers dry goods and perishables, some vegetables and potatoes, drinks, milk and a small selection of toys and school supplies. The other day I went to visit her and the new location to see how everything was going and to take some pictures. Yenny wanted to let you all know that her business, though it hasn't increased tremendously, was still going very well. She wanted me to communicate her gratitude to ICDU and it's supporters for the ability to expand her offering and stock a larger location as she feels that her income will continue to grow poco a poco.
Yenny has been a great entrepreneur to work with. She is hard working and consistently on-time with her payments. In fact she has paid more than the required amount each month and is on track to pay off the loan in August or September, 2 months early!
Here are some pictures of the new place!
